This was definitely one of the hardest books I've read this year, not because it was badly written but because the subject matter was very personal and not at all comforting like I hoped it would be. ![]() Sheff uses scientific evidence to back all of his findings throughout his extensive research. The hopes of his book Clean are to address how, as a country, we have failed in our efforts to combat the drug problem. Unfortunately, with that mentality that so many Americans have, comes the belief that the addicted are in fact weak, selfish, and dissolute. He goes on further to add that that opinion is actually pervasive, pernicious, and downright wrong. Sheff starts his book with a powerful preface which carefully explains that the use of drugs is not a moral choice. In his book Clean: Overcoming Addiction and Ending America’s Greatest Tragedy, Sheff takes a new look at drug abuse and the treatment of addiction in our country, backed by cutting-edge research. His works have appeared in the New York Times, the New York Times Magazine, Rolling Stone, Playboy, Wired, and many other various publications. Author David Sheff is best known for his #1 New York Times bestseller Beautiful Boy. ![]()
